World Champion 1:5 Touring Cars 2005
Ian Oddie
According to the over 150 participants the track had enough grip at least on the frequented part, so nobody could complain. Our models came off well right from the start and so we had good reason to be pleased already after the pre-runs. Among the first 30 participants there were alone over 20 FG Competitions. Therefore the complete triumph was within reach, but then came the rain.
The quarter and semi-finals were driven in the rain or under wet conditions respectively, and so the number of FGs which were qualified for the final rather decreased. Finally 6 FG Competition, 2 Harm, 1 Crojet and 1 RS5 were qualified for the final run. All participants were in a very bad mood. During the Team Manager meeting they tried to put the final off to the next day, but it was impossible to change the minds of the organisors, and so the race continued.
At the end Ian Oddie won the final with a lead of five rounds and gained his first WC title although he wasn’t among the fastest in the qualifying. However drivers and spectators were in a greuling mood according to the rain and at the end the complete competition was overshadowed by this. Great pity that a WC had to be finally settled like this. |
